¿Es un error llamar a las Células Madre del cordón umbilical un seguro biológico?
At the American Society of Hematology 45th meeting, the team of John E. Wagner, of U. Minn. Med. School presents "Successful Neutrophil Recovery Following Autologous Umbilical Cord Blood (UCB) Transplantation for Hepatitis-Associated Aplastic Anemia: Case of Autologous UCB as Biological Insurance". Quote: "This case suggests that the private UCB banks' contention that family-directed storage of UCB is a form of biological insurance is not without merit."

¿Se pueden obtener glóbulos rojos para autotransfusión a partir de stem cells criopreservadas

This methodology is applicable for fundamental analysis of the mechanisms of terminal erythropoiesis and hemoglobin synthesis. Moreover, large scale cRBCs production could be possible with such a protocol. The new concept of cultured RBCs transfusion.
Massive and Selective Ex Vivo Generation of Matured and Functional Human Red Blood Cells (RBC) from Hematopoietic Stem Cells of Diverse Origins: Towards the New Concept of "Cultured RBC" Blood (ASH Annual Meeting Abstracts) 2004 104: Abstract 379

Several investigators have previously reported that erythroblasts could be obtained from hematopoietic stem cells including those of cord blood (CB) by in vitro culture. The e-RBCs produced by large-scale culturing system from CB CD34+ cells may be useful for acute blood loss.
Ex Vivo Production of Transfusable Red Blood Cells at Large Scale from Cord Blood CD34+ Cells Using a Coculture System with Human Telomerase Catalytic Subunit (hTERT)-Transfected Human Stromal Cells at Early Phase and with Acitivated Macrophage from Cord Blood CD34+ Cells at Late Phase. ¿Tejido óseo?

Our results demonstrate the presence of circulating stem cells with osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation potential in hUCB and may encourage the use of hUCB as a potential source for stem cells to be utilized in cell therapy protocols for various disease.

Investigaciones sobre beneficios sobre el músculo cardíaco post infarto

Human umbilical cord blood progenitor cells are attracted to infarcted myocardium and significantly reduce myocardial infarction size.

The present investigations suggest that infarcted myocardium significantly attracts HUCBC,that HUCBC can substantially reduce myocardial infarction size, and that HUCBC can limit the expression of TNF-alpha, MCP-1, MIP, and INF-gamma in acutely infarcted myocardium.
